The Software
This series of beginner explainers uses PaintShop Pro. You can download a free 30 day demo version at Corel’s website. (PC only).
This month we’re also running explainer series for Photoshop (which requires a paid monthly or yearly subscription) and GIMP (which is completely free).
The pre-requisities
This is a BEGINNER workflow explainer, so you just need to install and open the software. We’ll take it from there.
If you’re new to IT / computing, you may need help downloading and installing the software. Start with a search for ‘how do i install paintshop pro’ or speak with someone who’s familiar with downloading and installing.
Why would I do this?
Sometimes a presentation or image can look best with a single-colour background (other than white!). A block of a single colour can also be used as a title background in videos. Most image editing software includes various ways to create a new image with a single-colour background.
Let’s do it!
Click the play icon to watch this video. Subtitles are available – Click the settings cog at the bottom right for options. You can also watch this video full-screen by clicking the full-screen icon at the bottom right.
Good to know
This method is the quickest way to create a solid colour background using PaintShop Pro.
Where to next?
Single colour blocks are helpful but it’s also possible to create colour sweeps and blends like these with only a few clicks…
1: Create a new, blank image then select the ‘Gradient Fill’ Icon as below:
2: Click on the ‘foreground and stroke properties’ swatch at the top right of the window:
3: You’re presented with lots of built-in gradients. Scroll through and select one, then click OK.
4: To apply the gradient to your new image, just click anywhere on it!
This is the final explainer for Paintshop Pro. See Corel’s tutorial series to see where your creative journey can take you next!
