Get set up: Video editing applications

Editing perfection!

In March we’ll focus on VIDEO EDITING as our digital theme. We’ll bring you explainer videos to help you get started with these popular video applications…

Adobe Premiere Pro

Part of Adobe Creative Cloud, Premiere Pro is targeted at enthusiasts and professional creatives. It includes all the tools you’ll need to import files, sequence and export a video masterpiece!

A 30 day free trial of Premiere Pro is available – Long enough for you to work your way through our explainer series!

Vegas Pro

Vegas Pro is a popular choice among digital creative including YouTubers. It can be purchased outright or on a subscription basis, with the subscription version including access to stock video clips and audio files and additional ‘AI’ functionality including high quality text-to-speech and mobile-to-timeline support. You can download a 30 day trial

The free option: Shotcut

A completely free video editor just for you! If you’re taking your first steps this year there’s no need to pay a penny. Feel free to download it now! Note that we won’t be covering Shotcut in our explainer series.

Davinci Resolve

Offering a generous FREE version and full-length tutorials, Davinci Resolve sits alongside Premiere Pro in the ‘enthusiast to pro’ category of video editors and is also a popular option:

AI video editing: runway.ml

As part of its suite of online generative AI tools, runway.ml includes a timeline video editor. If you’ll be editing video for ideation and storyboarding, this could be the perfect option for you in 2026! We’ll be using runway.ml later this year to generate short video clips and assemble them into a short promotional video! You can start using runway for free, while a paid account includes credits towards a range of generative AI features including image and video generation.

AI storyboarding and visualisation: LTX Studio

It’s not strictly a video editor, but as a starting point for storyboarding and blocking out your next epic video it’s hard to beat! Enter your filmic idea (E.g. A futuristic fantasy where AI has gone rogue – Again!) and it can generate a shotlist for you. It can even generate short video visualisations for each shot, which you can tweak until you’re happy!
