The PlayStation (Now retrospectively refered to as the PS1) launched in the UK, revolutionising the industry with its 3D graphics. Wipeout, developed by Liverpool-based Psygnosis, became the console’s best-selling European launch title, with its techno soundtrack and smooth, futuristic visuals appealing to a generation of clubbers.
